Fort Henry is a gothic folly, sitting beside a large lake often adorned with water lilies in the heart of Exton Park. Built in 1788 for Henry, Earl of Gainsborough, Fort Henry is located on private grounds, as are the shores of the larger, Northern lake. The public footpath circumnavigates the smaller lake to the South.

Perfect picnic spot - FYI, The north shore is private property.

Part of a local clubs time trial course. The Bull Climb is an enjoyable climb, made better by a decent surface. The village shop at the top serves good sandwiches and cakes too, with a bench opposite for a picnic seat. A great place to reward yourself for the effort.

Great sandwiches and cakes at this shop, and hot drinks are available to take away. In the days of lockdowns and tiers we often have had a picnic here in place of a cafe stop. There is a handy bench opposite this community shop, and if the sun is not out, there is a bus shelter, with bench, opposite as shown in the pictures.

My wife and I live in Oakham, only 8 miles away, but we often use this great place as a cafe stop, using a variety of different routes around the quiet local lanes. Often ride around here when using the fixie from my stable. The owner, Sarah, is very helpful and accommodating for customers' needs, and the staff such as Georgia are always welcoming and cheerful. Our bikes always feel secure here. Jack at Windmill Wheels next door is one of the best bike mechanics in the area.
