Great little view point for the dam.

Lovely viewing spot on a beautiful day

I've only just moved to this area. It's so beautiful for me and my dog for our local walk.

If you go down to the sunken garden between Sextons and the flower shop, you'll see the force of the water from the lower dam into Slitten Brook, and it flows into the Bridgewater canal

A Flash is a unique industrial legacy to Wigan and there are many around the Wigan area. Each are lakes formed as a result of mining subsidence. Carr Mill Dam originally provided hydroelectric power to a grist mill. It is the largest body of water in the district. Good spot for a break on your ride

Open 24 hours a day with a variety of Picnic benches, outstanding water features, wildlife and heritage. The route links to the Trans Pennine Trail and there is a free public carpark if spaces are limited in Lymm village centre.

The circular route is easy to walk on and is also great fun for children.

Carr Mill Reservoir was a small mill pond in 1786. It was enlarged at least twice since then to supply water to the Sankey Brook Navigation and then by the railway company during the railway’s construction. Today it's used as a powerboat racing lake and a fishing lake. The trails around the edge make for a very nice walk, not far from the city.

Pennington Flash lake and the surrounding woodland and paths are a local nature reserve and country park. A Flash is the term for a lake formed in a depression caused by mining subsidence. It's interesting that the industrial past has created beautiful places like this.

Great tearoom and quaint village. Nice stroll round the reservoir (about 30 minutes).

Can get busy at weekends, but usually quiet during the week.

Lymm dam is well worth a visit, really picturesque
