Great walks around belton country park

Lovely little cafe, good selection of meals and sweet treats for most appetites. Outdoor seating next to bike parking is a great touch. Highly recommended.

Popular National Trust property. If you are lucky you may see a cricket match being played in front of the house during the summer. Standard over priced and busy cafe.

Excellent little cafe called the Tack Room. Plenty of outdoor seating with limited indoor seating. Very nice local food and drink. Loads of bike parking within sight of the outdoor tables. Worth calling them up front if going as a large group of cyclists. Just be careful with your road cleats on the gravel.

Belvoir Castle sits ontop of a hill rising over the valley of Belvoir, commanding views of North Leicestershire for many miles. The house has been the ancestral home of the Dukes of Rutland with the family living at Belvoir for almost a thousand years. The land was a gift from William the Conqueror to one of his Normal barons who fought for him at the Battle of Hastings 1066. The house and gardens can be visited with a cafe to take a break. You will find Woolsthorpe Lock on the end of the fabulously named Dirty Duck Lane. The bridge over the Grantham Canal provides a fantastic viewpoint to take in a rest from your ride, as does the nearby Rutland Arms pub on Woolsthorpe Wharf. There is a good quality gravel towpath alongside the canal.

Belton House, completed in 1688 is surrounded by formal gardens and a series of avenues leading to follies within a wooded park. It is a National Trust property, so free for members to visit. Cafe facilities and so much to see and do.

Balderton Lake is a reclaimed sand and gravel pit which now also features a wooded area and grassland with walkways.

Also the location of a round of the National Firework Championships each August. A great event, with 4 x 10 minute displays. Well worth going there around the time that this is on. Some challenging climbs around here, with the flat Vale of Belvoir, if you like easier rides.

Woolsthorpe Lock, on the Grantham Canal, is a picturesque place to stop for a moment. Nestling among stunning countryside, it is a lovely spot to while away some time. If you fancy a drink, the Dirty Duck pub on the opposite bank has a large garden beside the water and also serves food.

Lovely views and some nice hills to train on. Excellent rest point at Cafe Allez. Well worth planning a ride round here.

The castle was used as a film set, among other things. In the film "The Little Lord" the building represented the castle of the Dorincourt family. In the film The Da Vinci Code, Belvoir Castle was the summer residence of Pope Castel Gandolfo, and the castle was also used as a backdrop for The Ghost Castle. The listed castle is also open to visitors. The rooms house important works of art.
