very photogenic bridge

The bridge was the original approach to Clumber Park prior to the development of the famous lime tree avenue. It dates from the 18th Century and crosses an ornamental lake that was created by the damming of the River Poulter.

Beautiful park full of woodland trails and a serpentine lake, lots to see and explore with a historical chapel and ornamental bridge, cycle hire available too in the park.

Friendly and great cakes and coffee

This is the joint of the Trent and a marina with a lock protecting the Chesterfield canal. This is my commencement point to complete a cycle of the whole Chesterfield canal top to toe.

Quiet back lane with few cars. Nice route towards Clumber entrance.

Called in yesterday, great coffee, lovely setting. Advertised Christmas Market sounds tempting too.

Always a great stop off point! Great selection of meals, plenty of room for the bikes, nice to sit outside when it's warm or inside with a roaring log fire when it's chilly.

Fantastic coffee and cake, it's an old barn that's been converted really well,the food looked great if you have the time. lots of space inside and out for sitting down and plenty of room for cyclists and it's tucked away from the main road.

The Grade-I listed bridge over the River Poulter was believed to have been built in the 1760s. The bridge is now closed to vehicles due to a car deliberately driven into it in 2018.

A 200 year old bridge with great views of Clumber Park and River Poulter. The bridge was vandalised in 2018 but has been wonderfully restored to its former glory.

This ornamental bridge over the River Poulter is over 200 years old. In 2018 vandals damaged it severely but the restoration has been completed and it's looking amazing! Great views up onto Clumber Lake and across the surrounding parkland.

Clumber Park was once the home of the Duke of Newcastle but the mansion was demolished in 1938. It's now a beautiful estate of parkland, heath, woods and the lake. It's now managed by the National Trust. The parkland is free to access but there are paid entry or members areas. NT cafes, ice cream van and shop on site. There are also over 20miles of traffic free cycle ways on the estate, most are better suited for a mountain or touring bike but they are flat and not technical so if you don't mind getting a bit muddy...

Built in 1709, this attractive Grade 1 listed house was the childhood home of pioneering evangelists John and Charles Wesley. The house is currently open for tours, Tues, Weds, Thurs, Saturdays.

nice place for a break

Miles of relatively traffic-free roads to explore this leafy parkland. A great place to picnic on a warm summer day, but a lovely quiet area at any time of year.

Great spot for a bit of food.
