美しいサイクリングロード

A pleasant drive – no car traffic; I enjoyed it again yesterday, February 18, 2026. Very quiet, very pleasant, and "far away" from civilization.

The excellent farm track takes you quickly through the fields to Klein-Vernich. If it's been raining, however, you'll have to be prepared for long puddles in places behind the bridge over the A1...

Well, my Rox showed a 10% gradient, those were hard-earned meters :-) Coming from below, you then drive over the high plateau (unfortunately a fast-moving highway with accident memorial stones), and then come out "on the other side" in Metternich.

Very easy to drive on a dirt road.

Nice route with little traffic and you can ride at a good speed as long as the wind is not coming from the front

The three-aisled pillar basilica is located on a hill within a walled cemetery. The core of the building, made of whitewashed quarry stone masonry, dates from the middle of the 12th century. The nave and choir were extended to the east in 1832 in medieval style. The unplastered west tower made of quarry stone and bricks was built in 1597. The church belonged to the Dutch-Limburg abbey of Rolduc until 1796, and the place as a whole was, curiously enough, an exclave of the "Spanish Netherlands"! In the area of the sloping S-bend on the Swisterberg just before Weilserswist, the cycle path becomes narrow - too narrow for traffic in both directions. After the junction with Dobschleider Hof / Rösberg, the cycle path becomes a mixture of footpath, hard shoulder and dirt. So I prefer to move onto the road before the descent.
