Excellent cyclists cafe. very nice staff, good menu Sunday lunches great value. Tea comes in large cups - Excellent. Toilets OK. Garden area outside seating for sunny days. Worth adding to your route and stopping.

Gets busy and they end breakfast at 11.30. Missed out on bacon roll/cob

An excellent cafe stop before or after visiting the historic castle which is not far from here.

The second oldest sheep wash bridge in the Uk

This might be the base for a haulage business or wagon trailors might simply be parked up for storage here. Big new farm storage sheds are located here also

Fiskerton is a small village with houses that seem spread out, it was quiet and only s couple of people were to be seem on a Sunday evening. There is a nice walk along the river edge and a pub, also a decent bike track

There are several lakes at Gibsmere, these are fishing lakes. Many different bods swim and feed at the lakes, ducks, geese & swans. There are tracks around the perimeter of the first lake, but access was more difficult to see for the middle lake

Boat Lane campsite is quite a large campsite, not too many campers and vans here on late Sunday evening. As of May 2024 it is a lower price site at £15 with electric hook up. There are no size of space restrictions. Shower and toilet block. Best to use Campsites.co.uk as Pitchup is adding a large amount onto booking costs

Beautiful spot great scenery and history Castle grounds definitely worth a visit

Amazing! I wasn't expecting such a castle in the middle of Newark when cycling through.👍 Looks like it would be well worth a visit if you have time.

Standing in the middle of Flintham is like stepping back in time. This could easily be a set from a Miss Marple's film. It's origins go back much further than that though. Historians think it sprang up in Roman times as a spinal village for the Fosse Way, or the A46.

The Minster is spectacular

From Blisthrope it starts off narrow and widens out closer to Sherwood Pines. It's mostly hardpack terrain and gets more gravelly into Sherwood Pines.

An unusual survivor, with extensive construction, thought to be the second-oldest surviving in Britain, dating from the late 17th century. Sheep washing was performed in early summer to clean the winter accumulation of grease, etc., in the fleece, and pre-dated the practice of sheep-dipping which was a pest-control measure. Many such washes would simply be a dam in a stream, but at Thurgarton a 'pulpit' was provided in the middle of the stream for the man doing the washing so that he did not have to stand in the water.

Combine a visit to the castle with a picnic, watching the Trent roll by. There are lots of quiet lanes approaching from the south.

Newark Castle ruins are set in lovely, formal gardens bordered by the remaining walls of the castle which was partly destroyed in 1646 at the end of the English Civil War.

Balderton Lake is a reclaimed sand and gravel pit which now also features a wooded area and grassland with walkways.
