I've ridden Marriotts way many times, and it's a great route. However foolishly I didn't appreciate how muddy many parts of it get when it's been wet.

Founded in 1107 by William d'Aubigny, the butler to King Henry I, Wymondham Abbey was once a thriving monastery. However, it was closed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII, with the abbey officially surrendered to the crown in 1538. Today, the building serves as an Anglican parish church.

Pleasure to ride this mostly continuous path from Aylsham to Norwich (in dry conditions) through changing settings and off-road surfaces

This was a lovely off road bike ride and ideal for families. Unfortunately, ruined by out of control dogs off leads, or if on a lead it is a long lead that is barely visible so is a trip hazard. Lots of dogs jump up at you and chase after livestock. I ride responsibly with regard for other users on this shared path but I will not be riding it again any time soon. It’s a shame as I have used it for many years but I’ve had enough of the large amount of dog walkers who use this trail.

Has that curious thing of being impressively intact at one end but partially ruined at the other. Very grand for a parish church!

Norwich Castle is undergoing major works to restore the floors to their original level of the 12th century so future visitors can truly appreciate what life in the castle was like when it was built. It is still possible to appreciate the royal Norman fortress from the outside.

Journeying between Aylsham and Norwich, Marriott's Way is a traffic free trail for hikers and cyclists. It follows the routes of two disused railway lines for 26 miles and passes through some glorious Norfolk countryside. Such as this just outside the city of Norwich.

Norwich Castle comprises the castle, a museum and art gallery. The castle site is at least 900 years old but may currently be closed due to redevelopment. The large gallery complex converted from the city’s Victorian prison remains open during the works. It houses collections in archaeology, natural history, regimental history, and fine, decorative and contemporary art. Construction work has begun on the Norwich Castle: Royal Palace Reborn project to transform the medieval castle. Because of the building work and health and safety measures to protect visitors and staff, some areas of the castle site are not open.

St Edmund’s church in Taverham has an unusual outer appearance with its thatched chancel which looks slightly higher than the nave. The tower here has 11th century origins, with a lower, west slit window having a flint frame. Higher up on the south side is a stone-framed window, which indicates later 11th century work. Constructed under the orders of William the Conqueror after the Norman invasion, Norwich Castle is a striking medieval fortification in the city centre. Since 1894, the castle has housed the Norwich Museum and Art Gallery. It holds significant artworks, archaeological finds and objects that reveal the region's diverse history.

A church has stood here since at least 1086 when St Edmund's was mentioned in the Doomsday book. This Grade-I listed church is thought to be pre-Norman. It has a striking round tower, which almost makes it look like a castle.

Norwich Cathedral spire is about 315ft tall which makes it the second tallest spire in England.
