4月 16, 2025, Hagg Bridge on the Pocklington Canal
The Pocklington Canal was constructed at the beginning of the 19th century to transport agricultural goods from the East Riding to the larger urban centres to the south and west. A Bill was placed before Parliament in 1814 and the canal was designed by George Leather Jnr, an experienced navigation engineer who worked on Goole Docks and the Knottingley and Goole Canal. The canal was opened in 1818, running for 9.5 miles from the River Derwent at East Cottingwith to a mile south of Pocklington. The cost was £32,695, which was actually less than the original estimate. Hagg Bridge is one of four bridges crossing the canal designed by George Leather.

1月 9, 2024, Burnby Hall Gardens
Pocklington is a classic English market town, located just 15 miles (24 km) from the city of York. Pocklington is known for its red-roofed buildings and unusual street names. The town has an array of independent shops and places to eat, and a number of attractions worth checking out. Among the town's treasures lies Burnby Hall Gardens, a horticultural haven often referred to as the 'jewel in Yorkshire's crown' – a mandatory stop for anyone visiting.

12月 25, 2023, Stone Trough Inn
This is a lovely place to stop on your tour if you need some food and drink at a pleasant inn in a lovely spot. It's a sizeable inn with great staff. I'd recommend to use the seats outside (street-side) for great views over Kirkham Valley, including Kirkham Priory (which is 1 minute ride from here or 5 minutes walking from down the road from here). The inn is just a lovely place to stop and enjoy your life.

12月 25, 2023, Menethorpe Lane
No problem picking up a bit of speed on this minor, "forgotten" lane between Menethorpe and Welham Hill near Norton. A peaceful and quiet spin here through the green farmland of this area: a pure pleasure to ride. The peace and solitude here make it difficult to believe how close to Malton you are.

10月 19, 2022, Sand Hutton Village
Sand Hutton is a small village dating back to the Domesday Book. Hutton comes from the words for hill and settlement so despite the flatlands around here there is a little climb to get up here. There is a 19th century church, St Mary's, down a lovely tree-lined avenue and the ruins of St Leonard's, the previous 12th century place of worship lie in its grounds.

10月 19, 2022, Elvington Village and River Derwent Bridge
Elvington is a cute village centred round the village green, with the Grey Horse Inn a focal point. A 17th century stone bridge crosses the River Derwent at the east end of the village, connecting it with Sutton Upon Derwent. North West from the village is Elvington Airfield, WW2 bomber station and home of the Yorkshire Air Museum.

10月 19, 2022, Battle of Stamford Bridge Memorial
The field to the north east of the road is the site of the Battle of Stamford Bridge on 25/09/1066, a turning point in English history. It was here that King Harold of England defeated the Viking King Harald Harada and Harold's own brother Tostig. This resulted in the end of the Viking era in England, such was the loss of life. Though from here, King Harold and his men had to march to Hastings on the south coast of England to meet William of Normandy who was challenging Harold's ascension to the throne. Harold's exhausted and much depleted men were defeated at the Battle of Hastings and Harold killed. This lead to the Norman Conquest of England. The Battle of Stamford Bridge is depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry. There are monuments to the Battle of Stamford Bridge in the village and on the site of battle at the end of Whiterose Drive.

8月 10, 2022, Kirkham Priory
Kirkham Priory is an Augustinian Abbey, built in the 12th century. If you look carefully at the gothic medieval gatehouse you can see sculptures of St George and the dragon on the left and David and Goliath to the right. The Priory is on the banks of the river Derwent and the area was used as a test centre for WW2 landing vehicles for the D-Day landings. Soldiers even scaled the heights of the cloister walls with scrambling nets to practice moving from large ships to smaller boats. Even Sir Winston Churchill and King George VI came to visit with the troops were stationed here.
