A very nice little ice cream café with a great selection of delicious ice cream flavors. Annett and her team are always very friendly, and it's a pleasure to stop by.

Someone must be found, it's such a shame that this castle hasn't found a loving owner for 26 years now.

The three-winged baroque palace (now an architectural and garden monument) was built between 1677 and 1689 and a spacious French-style garden was laid out. For over 100 years, this rural enclave served the Dukes of Gotha as a summer residence and pleasure palace. They spent their summer holidays here and celebrated their summer festivals here. From the 19th century onwards, the palace was increasingly neglected. In the 20th century, the former jewel of ducal country residences was converted into a reformatory, youth education centre and, until the mid-1990s, a youth work camp. Since then, the palace has stood empty and is not open to the public. A renovation and usage concept is currently being worked on. Only the outside area is accessible. A wonderful spot to linger and dream. Great lakeside restaurant with reasonable prices and good food. Highly recommended.

The Nessetal cycle path is a 65 km long connection between Eisenach and the state capital Erfurt and can also be used as an alternative to the Thuringian Cities Chain cycle path or as a circular route. The first section was built in 2011 and completed in 2014.

Unfortunately, vandals have been causing trouble here too. 😕

The former water reservoir is a natural monument with its reed belt. There is a small jetty where you can walk a few meters out onto the lake and there is a circular hiking trail around the reservoir. Definitely a lovely destination.
