The Peace Wall still divides neighborhoods and people, but it now serves as a canvas for messages of hope and reconciliation. The feeling of standing right in a place that carries so much history is unique. The silence of the street is broken up by the works that adorn the walls. You may linger here for a moment and let the contrast between past and present sink in.

Crossing the Lagan over the Lagan Weir in Belfast gives you, as a cyclist, an interesting perspective of the river and the city. The bridge, which runs between the Queen Elizabeth Bridge and the M3 Harbour Bridge, is not only functional, but also part of a larger riverside development project. Before the Weir opened in 1994, the river was highly exposed to the tides. At low tide, the muddy banks dried out and gave off a rather unpleasant smell, especially in summer. Today, the Weir ensures that the river remains even and the waterfront area has become much more attractive - an important step for urban development in this area. The pedestrian bridge over the Weir provides a direct connection between the two sides of the Lagan and offers you great views over the water and the Belfast skyline.

Located right in the Titanic Quarter, the building is an eye-catcher from afar - the modern architecture with its sharp edges and shiny facades is reminiscent of the bow of the famous ship and offers an exciting contrast to the historic docks where the Titanic was once built. Victoria Park in Belfast is an interesting spot for a short bike ride and a break by the water. It is accessible 24 hours a day and has a quiet lake that is enlivened by swans, ducks and other water birds. The walk around the lake is particularly relaxing, where gently curved paths lead you through the greenery of the park. The complex dates back to 1906 and was designed by landscape architect Charles McKimm, who also designed the impressive tropical hall in the Botanical Garden. You can also explore the small BMX track by bike, which attracts ambitious cyclists - perfect for adding a little variety. On the banks of the lake, the complex offers a beautiful mix of nature and urban flair. Free parking makes access uncomplicated and practical. A walk or a bike ride through this historic park is a refreshing break, especially with the lively birdsong and the proximity to the water. Whether for a short break or a longer stay – Victoria Park offers a pleasant ambience in the middle of the city.

This nature reserve is located in the heart of the busy Belfast Harbour Estate and offers a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the city. On the way there, the route takes you along the lough, where you may be lucky enough to spot various species of birds. The centre itself has two observation huts and a modern visitor area with panoramic views of the lagoon. Here you can enjoy the diverse wildlife while enjoying a cup of coffee. However, the paths to the centre are sometimes muddy in wet weather, so sturdy shoes are recommended. Overall, the RSPB Window on Wildlife Centre is a worthwhile stop on your bike tour to experience nature and peace.

The route runs along Strangford Lough and offers impressive views of the water and the surrounding landscape. The colourful rows of houses along the esplanade are particularly attractive and give the place a special charm. The route is suitable for different types of bikes.

Voted as one of the top ten gardens in the world, Mount Stewart reflects a rich tapestry of design and planting artistry bearing the hallmark of its creator. Each of the formal gardens exudes a distinct character and appeal. Mount Stewart is a delight for the senses with a series of formal themed garden compartments around the house including The Italian, Spanish, Mairi and Shamrock Garden.

A real gem of a coastal route considering just how close it is to Belfast. You can ride on through past the logistics base ( its just vehicles that cant ), and on to Holywood. At the beginning of the Coastal route, just after the Airport Road entrance there are wetlands, popular with migrating birds, and an inlet to the left where you will find the best collection of intact seashells I have seen. Perfect spot for a sunset too. And the row of different coloured Houses on the Esplanade are a real charm. You can continue on to Bangor via the North Down coastal path. That route is perhaps more suited to a Bike with at least 8 Gears, and Tyres no smaller than 25s. I have completed it on a Track Bike, but it was a bit of a bone shaker.
