11月 17, 2024, Lindley Wood Reservoir
Lindley Wood is a compensation reservoir, which means it is not linked to the supply of water to homes but is there to take excess water from Fewston and Swinsty reservoirs, which are nearby. This is why there is not much water in there.

9月 7, 2024, View of Appletreewick
The road between Barden and Burnsall on the B6160 is pretty gorgeous with typical Yorkshire scenery. The views out towards Appletreewick and the river Wharfe are pretty pleasing to the eye and are just a reminder as to how beautiful Yorkshire is. No wonder this county has produced so many noted cyclists at world level.

12月 19, 2023, Lindley Wood Reservoir
This reservoir is one of the oldest in the Washbourn Valley; it was built between 1869 and 1876. The other three reservoirs here are Thruscross, Swinsty and Fewston. Walking around the reservoir is a truly aesthetic, soul-beautifying experience. The green wooded banks, woodland and reservoir paths and open countryside... what else would anyone want in life?... oh, sunsets here are unbelievable.

8月 17, 2023, Spofforth Castle Ruins
Spofforth held paramount significance as the primary residence of the Percy family, a pivotal and commanding lineage in the northern realms of England, until the concluding era of the 14th century. William de Percy, a cherished figure in the eyes of William the Conqueror, erected a distinguished manor house upon this land during the 11th century. It is said that within these very grounds, insurgent barons convened to draft the historic Magna Carta in the year 1215.

10月 26, 2022, Old Ilkley Bridge
The Old Ilkley Bridge is a packhorse bridge over the River Wharfe. It was built in 1675 to replace the ford which took the Roman road across the water. It is especially beautiful on a sunny day with the light reflecting off the water onto the bridge. On the southern side of the bridge you will find the start of the Dales Way. An 80mile hike all the way to Lake Windemere in Cumbria.

Lindley Wood Reservoir was the first of the four reservoirs in the Washburn Valley to be built. It was constructed by navvies between 1869 and 1876. In the summer of 2022 it dried up exposing a cracked mud bed. Lindley Wood acts to take in excess water from nearby Fewston and Swinsty Reserviors. As the country was in drought, there was no excess water to fill it.

9月 10, 2022, Thruscross Reservoir
Washburn Reservoir sometimes goes by the name 'West End'. So called due to the name of the village that was flooded to create this water body. When the reservoir is low, the village reappears. It is a popular place for walking and like the other reservoirs in the Washburn Valley is stunning in the autumn. The section below the dam is used for white water kayaking. If you have read 'In a Dry Season' by Peter Robinson, this is the reservoir that inspired his novel where a flooded village is exposed in drought and a body found.
