The car park is currently free (June 2024) and ideal for leaving a car and catching the train west of east, or starting a hike/cycle into the surrounding area

Ivybridge station is well-placed for exploring southern Dartmoor by bike or on foot. Direct services run from Penzance, London Paddington & Cardiff. There are two platforms, the closest of which is for trains running to Plymouth & beyond, whilst the one opposite is for trains running eastbound towards Exeter and beyond. No bike parking services, unfortunately, but most services have space for at least two bikes - best reserve before travel (if you can!).

A stone bridge, crossing the River Plym, in Dartmoor National Park. The banks of the Plym offer a great spot for a breather, and even a quick dip on a hot day. There's even sometimes an ice-cream van.

Noss Mayo is a hidden gem. Quiet, picturesque and on the waterside of the River Yealm, it is a wonderful place to visit or start a hike. You can take a ferry from here across to Newton Ferries or to the South West Coast Path on the other side of the estuary. There are two pubs, The Swan Inn and The Ship Inn. It is the perfect hideaway.

Okay, let’s talk about great food and fantastic service close to the SWCP…the White Hart Inn is a must visit place if you want to have a fine dining experience with service to match in a pub setting. We stayed here for two nights and it was by far the best dining experience we had on our walk this year. What at first appears to be a normal pub/inn on a busy street in Modbury turns out to be something rather special. We had a lovely meal but it was the service which really made the evening something to remember. Definitely recommend…you will need to book in advance!

The beautiful area that is Tavistock, if you arrived on foot or two wheels there are several lovely cafes to set you up to continue you discovery of Devon

This gorgeous 18th-century bridge is one of several in the heart of Tavistock but is perhaps the prettiest. The River Tavy rushes underneath to pass down the weir, creating a series of little waterfalls in lush surroundings. The bridge features both on the Dartmoor Way cycle route and National Cycle Network Route 27.

A fantastic cafe in the heart of Princetown. There's both inside seating and outdoor at the back in the gravelly courtyard, where you can also leave your bike. I'd highly rate the breakfasts as well as the hot pasties. A true cyclist's oasis on the moor!
