Bleak but well worth it, Chew reservoir is high in the dark peak, surrounded by pretty rugged moorland. Heading east or south from here will involve crossing small streams and wet grasses, with some hard to follow paths. The reservoir access road down to Dovestones is steep but very easy going, terrain-wise.

Nice and easy walk around the reservoir. Great to stretch your legs. Plenty of options to make it harder or longer by climbing up the hills.

This is a set of two reservoirs set in the picturesqe Strinsdale Country Park on the outskirts of Oldham. You can do a loop of the lower reservoir and explore further east for some trails through farmland.

The Ashway Gap tunnel was built to maintain the water supply to the mills downstream of the Yeoman Hay Reservoir. It takes water from upstream of the reservoir through a tunnel and down this channel to the Greenfield Brook. This was before Dove Stone Reservoir was constructed. Today it acts as a relief channel diverting high flow from the reservoirs. It's a spectacular sight during the winter and at periods of high rain.

Hovering around the 1,650 foot (500 m) mark, you have nice views of the tail end of Dovestone Reservoir and Greenfield from here. It makes for a great vantage point on a misty day when you have thin vapour clouds hanging over the reservoir. Soon you will be at Bramley’s Cot, where there will be an ever better viewpoint.
