If heading north along the coast towards Sellafield follow the track on the seaward side of the railway all the way up to the Calder, then it's a loop under the railway and over the River

Isel Bridge, located near Setmurthy in the northern Lake District, is an elegant Grade II-listed bridge that spans the River Derwent. Built in 1812 to replace an older bridge dating from 1691, it consists of three segmental arches and two piers of calciferous and pink sandstone, with a solid parapet and saddleback covering. The bridge is situated in a conservation area and is a popular passage for walkers and cyclists, including as part of the Allerdale Ramble and routes to Watch Hill and Setmurthy Common. Its location offers beautiful views of the surrounding hills and valleys, and it's a peaceful place to stop when touring the western Lake District.

The lake is fed by numerous streams including the beck from Scale Force. The River Cocker starts from here, flowing towards Cockermouth where it joins the River Derwent.

National Cycle Network route 71 crosses from the Buttermere Valley into Lorton Vale. It's known as the C2C route and has stunning views over Crummock Water.

The Wasdale Head Inn is one of THE iconic Inns of the Lake District. In the early days of British climbing, it was the meeting and gathering point before so many famous ascents. The Photographs in the dining room lay testament to its long association with climbing and adventure in Wasdale, the Lake District and further afield. A stay in the hotel or at least a meal and a drink in the bar are almost mandatory for seasoned walkers and climbers. You can feel the history here. There are excellent facilities here (except NO mobile signal) and the hotel even has their own small campsite opposite.

Great pub to visit after a long walk around wasdale head, serves food also with a shop adjacent to the pub, another of those lake district pubs kept away from the big name chains… but for how long

Beware of free descending in the wet - it *appears* a shallow descent but you pick up speed quickly and there are some (otherwise lovely) sharp/blind turns.

Positioned at the base of Uldale Valley and Dent Fell, the town is characterised by a broad Main Street extending into the vibrant market square. Remnants of the 12th-century Norman castle can be found near the market place at the southern end of Main Street. Today, Egremont's economic landscape is anchored in the nuclear industry centered around Sellafield. It lies on NCN 72, Hadrian's Cycleway.

The vast expanse of the sandy Seascale beach stretches for miles, offering breathtaking vistas that extend across the sea to the Isle of Man and the Galloway mountains.

A quintessential Lakeland village, Coniston is sandwiched between a beautiful lake and a mountain range, both of which share its name. The village has an interesting history. It was home to poet John Ruskin during Victorian times, while the middle of the 20th century saw Donald Campbell break the world’s Water Speed Record four times on Coniston Water. He died attempting to break the record again on the lake in 1967. The Coniston Fells are a superb group, with many climbing routes on Dow Crag's east face, as well as marvellous winter walks when the snow arrives. Coniston has plenty of accommodation options and amenities.

This spot offers fabulous views over Crummock Water. Stretching over 2.5 miles (4 km), this crystal-clear lake features a rocky bottom and is bordered by the steep fellsides adorned with Skiddaw slate.

Very busy in the warmer months. Car parking is an issue so expect the roads to be littered with cars parked on the verges.
