This is a mile-long tunnel locates on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. It is the longest tunnel on the canal and due to its narrow design boats would once be legged through it. This is a risky practice where people would walk along the tunnel walls pulling the boats. Today, access to the tunnel is managed through timed light signals to ensure safe passage.

The paths are mostly well-surfaced paths but there is a long, steep and rocky climb at the beginning followed by a rocky/grassy. But the climb can be quite intense and exposed on a bad day.

An ancient cross called Mount Cross or Idol Cross stands at the southern edge of Stansfield Moor, near Kebs Road, Stiperden, some 2 miles N of Cornholme village. It is said by local historians to date from the 7th century, but it is more likely to be from the 10th or 11th century. The cross is a registed Ancient Monument. The cross stands between 4 and 5 feet high with a wheel-head 65cm by 38cm in diameter. It is a free standing cross without a base. There are traces of roll-moulding decoration, vine-scrolls and an incised calvary cross. Some historians have referred to it as a 'Rude Stone' which was said to have been discovered buried beneath the Great Bride Stones to the SE of this site. According to legend, the cross was, long ago, the site of pagan practices - this perhaps is where the name 'Rude Stone' comes from? The Great Bride Stones themselves were once associated with pre-Christian, pagan practices. Mount Cross is said to be the oldest religious memorial in the area.

Food and drink is good but be prepared to pay for it!

Once the industrial centre for the cotton industry. The mill towns like Hebden Bridge and Todmorden are stepped in character and history. All are well worth a visit.

Drop your seat post over the bumps. Saturday mornings are very busy on the pump track.

Bridleways and tracks criss-cross this little country park right in the heart of the borderlands between Lancashire and West Yorkshire. Some people think it's a bit bleak up there but I think its beautiful.
