Herzele Castle is a ruin of a moated castle, built in the course of the 11th century. It was the residence of the lords of Herzele and has been a protected monument since 1957. The castle was destroyed and rebuilt several times. In 1579, after destruction by the Spaniards, it was not rebuilt due to a lack of funds of the then residents, Prince Willem d'Espinoy and Ernestine van Arenberg. The ruin was sold, one tower was retained to assert the right of privilege. Restoration in 1972.

A diamond-shaped wooden post chapel attached to a concrete post, containing a decoratively carved wooden cross with an inscription "1931-1993" at the base of the shaft. The cross is crowned with a lily. A detached statue of Christ sits in the front right corner. A wooden kneeler stands in front of the cross. A beautiful, earthen sunken road through the southern edge of the Oomberg forests.

Ruin of the moated castle (protected monument) in the center of Herzele. Its origins go back to the 13-14th century. Visit only possible with a guide through the tourism office.

Beautiful dirt road/gravel between Herzele and Ressegem, along forest and field. Well maintained.

Very pleasant forest to walk, few people and mostly well-maintained paths.
