The Stella Artois brewery is located in the heart of Leuven. In the city registers of Leuven, we find a record of excise duties for the Den Hoorn brewery as early as 1366. It was at this brewery that Sébastien Artois became master brewer on June 13, 1708. His name thus became inextricably linked to the brewery and the city of Leuven. In 1926, the Artois brewery launched a Christmas beer, following the tradition of the time. It was called "Stella," the Latin word for "star." The beer was such a success that the brewer decided to market it permanently. Our Stella Artois still exists today. The horn and the year 1366 are still mentioned in the logo, references to the beer's origins. Click on the map at https://ab-inbev.be/ with the breweries, select the one for Leuven, and you will find this text with a photo and directions to the brewery.

The landscape between Wijgmaal and Haacht, with its numerous remnants of meanders and the meandering Dyle River, has been recognized as a heritage site. Along the lower reaches of the Dyle River and along the Leibeek between Wijgmaal and Hever (an old Dyle bed), sinuous strips of moist or peaty alluvium occur at regular intervals, which can be considered relics of large, incised meanders. They are clearly distinguishable in size and radius from the numerous horseshoe-shaped free meanders that were cut off from the Dyle in the relatively recent past. The river banks along the Dyle are of a later date. They are slightly higher and consist of drier soil; here, there are often fields and habitation along narrow roads. The Dyle meadows still contain traces of several paleomeanders. Inventory of Immovable Heritage: Dijle Valley between Wijgmaal and Haacht, https://id.erfgoed.net/erfgoedobjecten/300492

Ann Van Dessel (born December 26, 1961) from Mortsel is a poet and writing instructor. Her poetry debut, "Een kei in duren" (A Rock in Duration), was published in 2012. This was followed by "Toverstroming" (Magic Flood) in 2017, and "Als de lucht valt" (As the Sky Falls) in 2021. At the end of May 2011, she was appointed Haacht's first village poet. During her tenure in that role, she wrote this poem, "van grenzen gezwijt" (Silence of Borders), for the ceremonial inauguration of the new Damien Bridge (in 2012). She also wrote three poems commissioned by Natuurpunt for Haacht's three nature reserves. And that's far from all. The 2-meter-high wooden statue of Father Damien was installed on the west side of the Damien Bridge on August 22, 2013, and was donated by Lizette Cresens from Haacht. The statue was created by an artist from Wolfsdonk. Source: https://www.tremelo.be/product/2172/15-standbeeld-damiaan-damiaanbrug The bicycle and pedestrian bridge itself was opened in 2012 and is located near the Damien Museum in Ninde (at the end of the road). The two Dijle dikes it connects are called the Pater Damiaandijk (on the Ninde side) and the Schipstrekkersdijk (on the Haacht side). Near the bridge, the Grote Laak flows into the Dijle. This river branches off from the Demer near Aarschot and is also known as the Laak and formerly the Meetshovense Laak.
