Beautiful hiking trail completed on June 21, 2025. Note a very steep, dangerous section, but only 2 or 3 meters long, just after the lookout. Be careful not to slip at this point. Another point to note, around point 10, is the presence of an insect nest, probably bees: a family passing in the opposite direction warned us because their three children had been stung several times. The nest is located at the bottom of a leaning tree at the water's edge, and we have to walk right next to it. We saw the angry insects flying and preferred to retrace our steps (400 meters) and take a path that ran slightly above the route.

The "Bird's Footbridge" in Martelange, Belgium, is a 150-meter-long pedestrian bridge that crosses the Sûre River and transports hikers into a fascinating natural world. Opened in 2011, the bridge is part of a project connecting the municipal building (Moulin Kuborn) and the former tannery park (Parc de la Tannerie). Long the path are informative panels that educate visitors about the various bird species. QR codes can be scanned with a smartphone to hear the birdsong.

The Mardasson Memorial is a war memorial commemorating the Battle of the Bulge and is located on Mardasson Hill, northeast of the Belgian city of Bastogne, which was the center of the battle at the time. The Mardasson Memorial was created on the initiative of the Belgian-American Association, an association that wants to honor the memory of the many young Americans who died here. The monument was inaugurated on July 16, 1950 and stands for the enduring friendship between the Belgian and American people, who fought shoulder to shoulder during the victorious battle they waged during this Ardennes offensive in December '44 - January '45 and the decisive role they played in the liberation of Bastogne. And in memory of the heroic resistance of the American soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division.

The monument is in the form of a five-pointed star, the symbol of the American army, with each branch measuring 31 metres in length. It was designed by the architect Georges Dedoyard to keep alive the memory of the 76,890 American soldiers who were killed, wounded or missing during this Ardennes Offensive. The central atrium has a diameter of 20 metres and a height of 12 metres. A stone with the following inscription in Latin was placed here: «POPULUS BELGICUS MEMOR 4. VII. MCMXLVI LIBERATORIBUS AMERICANIS» «The Belgian people remember their American liberators – 4 th July 1946» «The Belgian people remember their American liberators – 4 July 1946» This is also a reminder of the fact that on this spot on 4 July 1946, in the presence of the Ambassador of the United States, some earth was removed, deposited in a sealed box and sent by special plane (a Sabena DC4) to Washington. A Belgian delegation, led by the Minister of Defence, presented this sacred box to the then President of the United States, Harry Truman. The crown of the memorial bears the names of all 48 American states in bronze. The entire history of this bloody Battle of the Bulge is engraved in English in gold letters on the ten inner columns of the open gallery. The story of the battle in which 76,000 Americans were wounded or killed ends with a message: Those who are living can only express the greatness of those who died and fought here with a heightened respect for the freedom for which they went through fire. The outer columns bear the names and individual badges of the major American battalions that took part in this battle. The walkway at the top, reached by a spiral staircase, offers a magnificent view of almost all the defensive positions that were taken up during the siege of the city. Orientation tables provide a picture of the battlefield. At the foot of the building is a crypt dug into the rock, decorated with beautifully colored mosaics by the French artist Fernand Léger. Three altars are dedicated respectively to the Catholic, Protestant and Jewish religions.
