Kufstein – The Pearl of Tyrol in memoriam Karl Ganzer Karl Ganzer was an Austrian composer and poet. He became famous, among other things, for the Kufstein song "Pearl of Tyrol." The Water Bastion in Kufstein is part of the medieval city fortifications, built between 1560 and 1563, and today serves as a popular destination for cycling tours. From here, you can enjoy beautiful views of the Inn River and the surrounding countryside. The site is easily accessible for pedestrians and cyclists and is located on a scenic route along the Inn River, suitable for both leisurely rides and more strenuous tours. Nearby, historic buildings such as the Hell-Haus and Römerhofgasse invite further exploration and provide insight into the history and architecture of Kufstein.

The corner bastion, constructed of tuff blocks, features a massive wall with a sloping base and a stringcourse; the upper section of the wall projects slightly. The casemate roofs are accessible and have wide, stepped arrow slits. This structure, located at the northwest corner of the old town directly on the Inn River, was built starting in 1561 during the bastion's final expansion phase. To the northeast, it was separated from the city's outer bailey by the city moat. The Baroque-style structure was vaulted, housed the casemates, and was covered by a roof. When the bastions were demolished in 1862, the interior spaces were filled with earth and the openings were bricked up.

Good pictures can be taken from the west side. On the east side of the Inn, the angle is unfavorable. Be careful, there's a lot of traffic on both sides.

There is a narrow sidewalk next to the road, but for the perhaps most beautiful castle photo the traffic is a bit unfavorable
