The Wesertalsperre was commissioned in 1950. The dam is 63 meters high. The reservoir supplies Eupen, the Pays d'Herve, the Liège region and the Sart Tilman area with drinking water. The tour of the lake is 16 kilometers and it is possible to do the whole tour on foot.

There are some beautiful mountain bike trails along the dam, so a visit to the dam is worthwhile. During our visit in mid-November 2022, I found it shocking how empty the dam was 🤔

The Vesder dam is located on the Vesder, a few kilometers east of Eupen in the Belgian province of Liège. It is the area of the German-Belgian High Fens-Eifel Nature Park. The "Lake of Eupen" is the reservoir with the largest water reservoir in Belgium. Construction of the wall started in 1936. The dam is 410 meters long and has a height of 66 meters. Beautiful fog banks give you photographic pearls during the cooler months.

The Vesderstuwdam is located on the Vesder, a few kilometers east of Eupen. Lake Eupen is the reservoir with the largest drinking water reservoir in Belgium. The construction of the wall started in 1936. Railway 49A was constructed for the transport of goods to and from the dam. On February 9, 1950, the dam was officially inaugurated by Prince Charles of Belgium. Water is supplied through the Vesder, the Ghete and the Helle. The dam is 410 m long and has a height of 66 m, measured including the base of the dam. Lake Eupen has a volume of 25 million m³ and an area of 126 ha. The dam is located on the foothills of the Hertogenwoud.
