Climbing Mount Santa Caterina and its castle is an experience that offers spectacular views. The hike to the Case Romane and the small church on Marettimo is a fascinating journey into the past – and all this amidst the island's impressive landscape. The climb is short, but the path leads you through the Mediterranean scrub, full of wonderful scents and wild shrubs such as heather and somary. Once at the top, you'll discover a monumental complex from Roman times, nestled against a backdrop that offers sweeping views over Favignana, Levanzo, and the coast all the way to Trapani and Erice. On particularly clear days, you can even make out San Vito lo Capo on the horizon. The church is small and unassuming, but with its tranquil atmosphere and simple walls, it feels almost sublime. Masses are sometimes still held here, giving the place a special significance. If you want to pause to enjoy the view or the silence, this is the perfect place to do so.

The hiking trail to the lighthouse on the south coast of the island has a very special atmosphere. From afar, you can see the old "Faro di Punta Libeccio," rising high on a cliff above the sea. The path is rocky, surrounded by pine trees and dense Mediterranean vegetation, making the hike somewhat challenging but rewarding. The lighthouse itself, built in 1860 with its distinctive octagonal tower, may seem somewhat abandoned and is officially closed, but the view of the sea, the history, and the wind blowing around the ruins alone make the visit special. You feel the power of history at this place, which not only serves as a nautical landmark but also provides a connection to Tunisia – the Capo Bono lighthouse is directly opposite, and sometimes the beams of light from both towers can be seen "kissing." A special moment awaits you if you arrive in the evening. The solitude of the place and the light gently falling on the sea make you feel the vastness of the horizon. Ideal for ending the day in peace.
