Above the main altar of the church is the painting by Domenico Fiasella - known as Sarzana (1589-1669) - representing a legendary episode in the life of Jesus, namely the visit of the Holy Family, returning from Egypt, to St. John the Baptist in the desert. The Madonna's headdress is curious, and is attributed with the origin of the name with which the work was titled: "The Holy Shepherdess"

The Convento del Deserto di Varazze (SV) is located in the Ligurian hinterland a few kilometers from the sea, surrounded by green woods. It is a destination for many hikers, cyclists and walkers, but above all for pilgrims seeking the presence of God. The community of Discalced Carmelite friars carries out hospitality activities for spiritual retreats and days of prayer, as well as for scouts and parish groups. For 40 years the Hermitage has been a house of formation as well as the seat of the Novitiate. Excellent products such as jams, liqueurs, honey and balsamic syrups are available in the shop.

A route which, following the route of the old Genoa-Ventimiglia railway, inaugurated in 1868 and decommissioned in 1968, winds for approximately 11 km. For the entire route the cycle-pedestrian path develops in a coastal area made up of cliffs that slope towards the sea, with the presence of steep rocky slopes and spectacular natural elements combined with anthropic elements of considerable value, such as the beautiful tunnels dug into the rock, sections trench and embankment created near the coast. Along the route it is possible to stop in one of the bars present or relax on the beaches that gradually come across. The cycle-pedestrian path is dedicated exclusively to pedestrians and bicycles. Furthermore, the itinerary is completely flat, paved or asphalted and illuminated: certainly suitable even for those who are not particularly fit. The best way to discover the beautiful coast of the Beigua Riviera.
