Classic side to climb Monte Serra, one of the most famous and popular climbs among Tuscan cyclists. The climb from Calci is about 12 km long with a difference in altitude of 850 meters to get close to the antennas. The Verruca fortress rises in the municipality of Calci, in the province of Pisa, on the top of Monte Verruca. It can be reached by following the Firenze-Pisa highway, exiting at Cascina, then continuing towards Vicopisano. From the village, take the 'strada della Verruca' which starts from the village cemetery. Although largely unpaved, it can be traveled by car up to the foot of the rock where the Rocca stands. Reaching the RAI antennas on Monte Serra means reaching the highest point of the Pisan mountain and in a nutshell it represents a challenge and a first goal with significant differences in height for all those who love two-wheelers without an engine! The antennas can be reached by three different routes: from BUTI, from CALCI and from Sant'Andrea di Compito already in the province of Lucca; this last ascent in my opinion is the most beautiful (especially in summer since most of the road is in the shade), but it is also the most demanding.
