The Tagliaferro Mill, located near Colla Micheri, is an ancient ruin with a cylindrical plan. In addition to serving as a windmill, its strategic position along the coast suggests that it was used as a watchtower against pirates. The incomplete walls and ventilation openings of the mill, present in the historical maps of 1785 and the French Land Registry, are still visible along the path that descends towards Colla Micheri, an enchanting medieval village preserved thanks to the interventions of the ethnologist Thor Heyerdahl.

The Via Julia Augusta is located between Albenga and Alassio in Liguria and once continued to Provence in France. The Via Julia Augusta was built in 13 BC and was intended to transport trade goods overland. Today the Via Julia Augusta is a wonderful place to hike and at the same time experience a piece of culture in Ligurian history.

Second of the three leaders of the Milano-Sanremo (Mele, Cervo and Berta), this hill marks the arrival of the Classicissima in the province of Imperia. Cervo, in fact, is a town with a thousand inhabitants bathed by the stream of the same name.

Between the towns of Albenga and Alassio lies a very beautiful section of the ancient Via Iulia Augusta. If you start from Alassio there are good parking options at S.Croce 🅿️. From Albenga: if you don't want to park in town, there are options along the river towards the beach. Emperor Augustus opened this path around the year 12/13 BC. Overall, it is a coastal road that connected northern Italy with southern France (Gaul) and Spain, after previously independent Maritime Alpine peoples (such as the Ligurians) were either subjugated or “united” with the Romans through alliances. Wikipedia writes that this enabled an army to reach the Iberian Peninsula in 27 days, and with 4 changes of horses and 70 km per day, they reached Arles within 8 days! Along our route there were essentially buildings of the Albenga necropolis as well as a really well-preserved piece of the via itself!

5月 3, 2023, Mulino Tagliaferro
System dei Mulini a Vento The oldest and most detailed cartographic map, the Carta Tipografica della Magnifica Comunità e Valle di Andora (1785) and the subsequent map of the French Cadastre (early 19th century) show clear evidence of the presence of some buildings that have been identified and described as windmills . These are buildings with a circular plan, located on the tops of the ridges, six of which are on the east side of the Merula Valley along the border with the territories of Laigueglia and Alassio: a first windmill was located near the ancient oratory from Sant' Antonio del Cavo (now Aeronautical Base - Radar of Capo Mele, at the current hairpin bend between Strada delle Catene and Via Cornice del Capo); then there was the Tagliaferro mill, a ruin, with incomplete remains of walls and no roof, which can be visited following a path that leads to Colla Micheri. So there were the two “Spaleta mills”: one has disappeared while the other has been completely restructured and integrated into a modern dwelling. in innervinciano ALiO di Pilato": one has been restored, the other is fairly well preserved (both cannot be visited as they are privately owned). The Tagliaferro mill or the Casalin mill, of all the Andor mills that exist today have survived, it is the one in the most strategic position in terms of coastal positioning: this specific location would entail a particularity that emerges from the French cadastre of Maones, where this settlement is referred to as "Tower", with reference to Republican documents Genoa, in which it is sometimes precisely referred to as a watchtower against corsair and pirate raids. It has a cylindrical shape and in the remains of the wall structures one can see an access portal to the ground floor and two openings a and aligned in favor of the more frequent ventilation, one of which is the Access portal itself overlaid There are no presences or evidence of pre-existence of mezzanines or roofs, leading to the assumption that there are no walls above. From the Mulino Tagliaferro we descend to the characteristic village of Colla Micheri, crossed by the ancient AUguSta roads of the Romans: it is intact in its medieval character thanks to the Mirao conservation measures carried out by the famous ethnologist who wrote so much about the Conservation of its typicality and beauty.

9月 20, 2022, Church of San Giovanni Battista (Cervo)
Saint John the Baptist (San Giovanni Battista), to whom this church was dedicated, is - like Saint Joseph - a man on the threshold of the Old and New Testaments. His parents are Zechariah and Elisabeth. After the proclamation of God's incarnation, the Mother of God visits her relative Elisabeth, who will give birth to a son in old age, John the Baptist. This is half a year older than Jesus and is considered his forerunner / pioneer. He lives in the desert, preaches the repentance of sins to the Jewish population and baptizes them in the Jordan, where Jesus also comes to be baptized, being filled with the Holy Spirit that descends on him from heaven. The commemoration day of San Giovanni Battista in the calendar of saints is on June 24th, exactly half a year before 'Christmas Eve'.

The territory of Cervo is located in the final stretch of the Cervo torrent, along the Steria valley which is circumscribed, to the north and east, by the valley of the Merula torrent, in the province of Savona, and by the Evigno basin along the opposite slope. Together with seven other municipalities, it is included in the area of the Gulf of Dianese. The historic core of Cervia, completely renovated while preserving the original characteristics of the village, stands on the slopes of the hills facing the sea. Between the hills Colle di Cervo (324 m) and Colle Castellareto (211 m).
