Skien is one of Norway's oldest cities, dating back to the Middle Ages. It's famously the birthplace of renowned playwright Henrik Ibsen, and you can explore his childhood home, now a museum. Skien is also known as the starting point of the scenic Telemark Canal, a historic waterway with a spectacular system of locks. Historically a center for seafaring and timber exports, it now boasts a blend of urban life with pedestrian streets, green spaces, and a vibrant cultural scene.

Beware. This parking lot will cost you an arm and a leg! We were there at 8:30…. Parking until 12:00 was 300 kroner, and after 12:00 another 300. No middle ground, no way to pay for the actual time you are parked there. Paid 600, but I am absolutely furious. What a dirty rip-off!

A lovely secluded bay with a good view of the small fishing harbour, complete with a very well-placed bench to take a rest.

Small but pretty harbour mostly used by fishing boats. A peaceful and calm place to stop for refreshments.
