Otranto is one of the most famous and characteristic towns in the province of Lecce. It has almost 6,000 inhabitants and is the easternmost town in Italy. The Chidro River is a stream that travels about 10 km underground, and then 500 meters from the Ionian Sea comes to the surface through a spring called a "crater", located within the Chidro River Mouth Nature Reserve.
