On the Alpe, there are two stone vaults that serve as natural refrigerators. The owner explained to us that the left cellar is about 200 years old, while the right one was built by him and his family only a few years ago. These cellars consist of a three-layered "false" vault. In the inner vault, the stones are slightly sloped outward to prevent rainwater from entering the cellar. Between this vault and the outer vault is a layer of large pebbles that acts as a thermal barrier to prevent sunlight from heating the inner layer. Cooling is provided by the spring water that flows through the cellar.

Access to the glacial mills is extremely easy: they are located near the train station, which can be reached with the legendary "trenino rosso", a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008. The Glacier Garden is open from May to October. Surrounded by rich flora and varied alpine vegetation, the glacial mills are one of the most impressive things that the Val Poschiavo has to offer!
