The Pieve di Santo Stefano di Vallecchia is a church of Romanesque origin located in Vallecchia, a hamlet of the municipality of Pietrasanta. The church is located along the Via Francigena, which passes right in front of the church facade. The bell tower is on the right and its renovation dates back to the first decade of the 21st century. The foundations of the complex date back to the 8th century AD, while the current architecture dates back to the 11th century. The oldest parts were built using local marble from the nearby Monte Solaio. The interior is divided into three naves, separated by columns with Romanesque capitals and ancient pillars. In a niche in the third pillar of the left nave is kept a beautiful statue of the Madonna and Child, dating back to the 14th century. The rich furnishings of the parish church are completed by the polychrome marble confessionals from the 17th century, a 16th century crucifix behind the altar, and the marble pulpit with rich Baroque decorations.

Versilia is a coastal strip with sandy beaches that slopes gradually down to the sea from the Apuan Alps. Since the nineteenth century, various fashionable seaside resorts have emerged in the coastal area. Over the years, these have grown together into a large agglomeration. There are few high-rise buildings in the coastal area; the buildings generally do not rise above the pine forests (pineta). The area of the municipalities of Seravezza and Stazzema, which are located in the hilly region, is referred to as Alta Versilia (High Versilia).
