The first historical information about Madonna di Campiglio dates back to 1188 and is contained in a letter to Corrado II da Beseno, Bishop of Trento. At that time, and more precisely around 1180, a certain Raimondo built a small hospice in the area "for the benefit of his own soul, in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, to help the poor and to protect passers-by, near Monte Campiglio, in a solitary and uninhabited place, where those who passed by were often robbed and killed". The tomb of Franz Joseph Oesterreicher (1848-1909), the natural son - it is said - of the Emperor of Austria, stands out on the floor.
