7月 5, 2024, Tower of Vignoni Alto
In the current village is still visible a tall tower, formerly the keep, reduced in height with a high chamfered base and topped by a 'redondone' (dripstone) to delimit its vertical feature and a small window on each side. Within the walled circuit is the church of San Biagio, of Romanesque origin.

7月 5, 2024, Tower of Vignoni Alto
Vignoni Alto, a picturesque medieval village perched on a hill, offers breathtaking views of Castiglione d'Orcia and the Val d'Orcia. With its rich history dating back to the eleventh century, the village is a living monument of feudal times, with remains such as a high tower and the Romanesque church of San Biagio. Despite its small population of only 28 inhabitants, Vignoni Alto retains its unique charm and character. The spectacular views of the Orcia Valley below complete the visit to this well-preserved Tuscan fortified hill town.

10月 3, 2023, Abbey of Sant'Antimo
The Abbey of Sant'Antimo, built by Charlemagne, is a silent portal to bygone eras. It stands majestically among the rolling hills of the Val d'Orcia, offering a peaceful refuge to travellers. It is a masterpiece of medieval architecture from the 12th century, and it is also possible to stay overnight in the monastic guesthouse of Castelnuovo dell'Abate.

Impressive sulfur spring, whose hot water runs over the rock and has given it its typical color. The spot under the rock offers the hotter spring water. It is somewhat more difficult to access than the upper springs, which are not quite as hot. Once you get used to the heat, you really don't want to get out of the pool. Except for the parking fee, the springs are free and freely accessible. Early mornings before 10am or on rainy days give you the best chance of a swim without too many other people. One of our holiday highlights in Tuscany.

2月 13, 2023, Abbey of Sant'Antimo
Sant'Antimo is an ancient monastic complex founded, according to legend, by Emperor Charlemagne. It is one of the most important Tuscan Romanesque architectures. The abbey, in splendid travertine, stands isolated on a clearing surrounded by centuries-old olive trees and beautiful wheat fields. The primitive nucleus dates back to the cult of the relics of Sant'Antimo of Arezzo, upon whose death, in 352, a small oratory was built on the site of his martyrdom. In 770 the Lombards commissioned the Pistoia abbot Tao to begin the construction of a Benedictine monastery and also entrusted him with the management of state property. In 781 Charlemagne, returning from Rome, retracing the great road created by the Lombards (later called Francigena), arrived in Sant'Antimo and placed his seal on the foundation of the monastery. The foundation by Charlemagne is almost certainly to be interpreted as a pure medieval legend. The church, as we see it today, is attributable to a construction begun in 1118 thanks to the legacy of Count Bernardo degli Ardengheschi. For info and visits: www.antimo.it
