7月 5, 2025, Gola dell'Infernaccio
We went on July 5, 2025, but the trail is closed for work at the information point. The trail should reopen in mid-September 2025

Getting there is no joke. I have seen people go there with beach sandals. Absurd! To get there, to the hermitage, you pass the gole dell’infernaccio, where the name already gives you an idea, even if it is beautiful and in one of the brightest points of the path you can also see the statue of a Madonna embedded in the rock. So the walking shoes first of all!

Beautiful place, you can walk in the gorge and the next day go up from the Sibilla refuge to see the gorge from above. Unfortunately when we went there was too much water and we couldn't get over the river (it would have taken more determination than ours) so we did a very short tour that is not a loop.

Paradise Gorge would be a more appropriate name 🙂. In a torrid summer the perfect place! To see and see again. You can continue with various paths.

10月 9, 2024, Monte Sibilla
Whether from Rif. Sibilla, over the Gole dell'Infernaccio, perhaps even with a visit to Erim.Leonardo, on the E10 as a circular tour, in/out or or...this little mountain has it all! The Sibillini Mountains owe their name to the famous Monte Sibilla (2173m). According to legend, the fairy Sibylla is said to have lived here (unfortunately the grotto collapsed). According to myth, a Sibyl is a prophetess who, unlike other divinely inspired seers, originally predicts the future without being asked. As with many other oracles, the prediction is usually ambiguous, sometimes in the form of a riddle...And so is this landscape: lovely, rugged, rough, pleasant...never too difficult, never to be underestimated and always good for a sudden, unexpected change in the weather! It's worth it!

Beautiful hike, on a path that is practically always in the shade and full of water. Particularly enjoyable to escape the summer heat. At the entrance to the path are the Pisciarelle, a real rain of fresh water that falls from the rocks above: an iridescent shower that no one gives up, especially on the way back. The path does not involve particular difficulties, but in the initial part it is rather steep and narrow, and requires a bit of attention, especially with children, and, obviously, suitable shoes (I have seen things that you humans...) Afterwards it flattens out, and becomes a very pleasant walk, on a constant and not demanding slope. A bit more tiring is the climb towards the Eremo di San Leonardo: nothing exceptional, but it does not flatten out until the arrival. From the Eremo, passing by a fountain, you can climb further, and arrive at the Cascata del Rio, where however I did not go. Returning from the Hermitage, with a short shortcut, you return to the path, which however shortly after is blocked, due to the danger of falling rocks, so that the source of the Tenna River is no longer reachable. In reality, you can still continue without danger for about 300 meters, skirting the Tenna in a pleasant beech forest; once out of the woods, the high rocky walls advise against continuing. As always, it is better to enter as early as possible (I slept in the parking lot before the barrier, and at 7.30 I was already inside), because, especially on summer weekends, during the central hours a real procession forms, with traffic jams in the steepest section.

The hermitage is currently undergoing restoration following the 2016 earthquake. Visitors can currently rest in front of it on a long stone bench in the garden. The current structure was built between the 1970s and the early 2000s by a Capuchin friar (Father Armando Lavini, known as Pietro), on the ruins of an old Benedictine monastery, abandoned since 1600. The structure originally held strategic importance as an important pilgrimage route between Rome and the Adriatic passed through this area. The last private owner of the land was Luigi Albertini, former editor of the Corriere della Sera.

You immediately go up to the top, from the asphalt you go to the gravel road. to see the view. Continue only if willing to have to go down and push because the ascent is too steep.

Beautiful refuge at the end of a long uphill ride from Lake Fiastra. You eat very well with very honest prices.
