10月 12, 2025, Portale di Diana, Villa Barbarigo
The Diana Portal in Valsanzibio is the monumental entrance to the Garden of Villa Barbarigo, a symbol of spirituality and power, designed in the 17th century by Luigi Bernini. Located in the heart of the Historic Garden of Villa Barbarigo in Valsanzibio (Padua), the Diana Portal—also known as Diana's Pavilion—was the main waterway access to the noble estate during the 17th and 18th centuries. This majestic portal is not only a Baroque architectural masterpiece, but also represents the beginning of the allegorical path of purification and salvation commissioned by Saint Gregory Barbarigo. https://www.valsanzibiogiardino.com/it/portfolio-item/portale-diana/

In reality, nothing remains of the castle, but the notable medieval walls that surrounded it remain: destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries, they are 1 km long; on the top of the hill, the keep which is still present watched over the entire town. Today the city walls enclose the very well-kept and spectacular Italian gardens, inaugurated in 1915, with orderly avenues and geometric flowerbeds, with tree species and centuries-old plants. The park, ideal for walking and relaxing, is open to the public free of charge: it closes in the evening/night, with times that vary depending on the season (see link). https://www.estedavivere.it/it/poi/castello-di-este/ https://www.euganeamente.it/il-castello-carrarese-di-este/

11月 29, 2023, Arquà Petrarca
«Extensive forests of chestnut, walnut, beech, ash and oak trees covered the slopes of Arquà, but it was above all the vines, olive trees and almond trees that contributed to creating the evocative and typical Arquà landscape» is how Francesco Petrarca describes Arquà, a small village of medieval layout where he spent the last years of his life, from 1370 to 1374. In the center of the church square, there is the poet's tomb, in red Verona marble. From Piazzetta San Marco, where the thirteenth-century Loggia dei Vicari is located, continue along Via Valleselle towards the House of Petrarca, from the fourteenth century, but enlarged in the sixteenth century, where you can still see the Poet's study, as well as some of his writings and his stuffed cat.

8月 28, 2023, Arquà Petrarca
In Arquà Petrarca, in the heart of the Euganean Hills, time seems to have stopped. This medieval village keeps its ancient charm intact more than any other. Its name could derive from "Arquata montium", or "cloister in the mountains", but it is made famous by the eternal legacy of Francesco Petrarca, the poet who spent the last years of his life here.

4月 11, 2023, Portale di Diana, Villa Barbarigo
The "Portale di Diana" or "Pavilion of Diana" was the main entrance to the Barbarigo estate in the 17th century and was one of the first built works of Bernini's design (work started around 1662). This superb and imposing entrance door represents one of the most important places in the whole monumental complex of the Garden of Valsanzibio. It didn't just mean access to the home of the Barbarigos, emphasizing the grandeur of the place, but it was the beginning of the path of salvation wanted by Saint Gregorio Barbarigo. Just in front of the Portal, outside it, on two sturdy pillars, rest the shields of the Barbarighi, supported by two statues representing angels in the calm attitude of children in short tunics. The Diana Pavilion, in addition to being a majestic building, is decorated with masks, bas-reliefs and 13 statues in Istrian stone, all sculpted by the sculptor Enrico Merengo. Among these sculptures, perhaps the most important are the six on the entrance facade of the portal and the four on the internal parapet. https://www.valsanzibiogiardino.com/it/il-giardino/il-padiglione-di-diana/

Nice path that I usually use to get quickly towards Monte Orbieso with the muscle, without too much difficulty.

Everything to explore. The main path is for everyone, the variations must be evaluated individually due to the slope, terrain and steps.

A military structure dating back to the early forties of the fourteenth century, the Castle of Este was built by Ubertino da Carrara on the ruins of a previous fortification and only ceased to have a strategic military function in 1887. Today it belongs to the municipality of Este.
