聖フランチェスコ・ダッシジは、今年で没後800年を迎えます。彼は使徒ペテロの言葉を借りて、私たちのキリスト教生活を次のように描写しています。「裏切り者を友人と呼ばれ、自ら十字架につける者たちに身を委ねたキリストの足跡に従うよう」私たちを招いておられます（参照 NbR XXII, 2; 参照 1 ペテロ 2,21）。貧しいフランチェスコは、イエスに目を向けるよう私たちを励ましています。「兄弟たちよ、羊を救うために十字架の苦しみを受けた善き羊飼いに注意しよう」（Erm VI）。 したがって、この十字架の道において、聖フランチェスコの招きに応え、イエスの足跡に従おうではありませんか。それは、儀式的あるいは知的なレベルだけでなく、私たちの全存在と全生涯をもって従うのです。「自らを体をもって捧げ、その聖なる十字架を担い、その最も聖なる戒めを最後まで従いなさい」（Off XV 13）。 （2026年4月3日、ローマのコロッセオにて、聖父レオ14世による十字架の道の黙想の序文より）

The Weissmies is the highest peak of the Weissmies/Lagginhorn/Fletschhorn trio. It is listed on the new maps at only 4017 m; previously, the elevation was given as 4023 m. The six meters of elevation loss is due to the melting of the summit cap, which is made entirely of ice. In return, the secondary peak to the southeast of the highest point (formerly P. 3965) has been upgraded by seven meters to 3972 m.

When visibility is good, the summit of the Weissmies at 4,013 meters offers a magnificent view of the two other peaks of the Weissmies Group (Fletschhorn and Lagginhorn), as well as the Mischabel Group (with the Dom as its highest point) on the other side of the valley. However, during our ascent, we could see... nothing (fog).

Starting point for the normal route to the Weissmies

The Almagelleralp mountain hotel is located at 2,194 meters in the impressive mountains above the Saas Valley. The approach via the adventure trail from Furggstalden is particularly exciting – with suspension bridges, ladders, and secured passages. A head for heights is required! The hut is perfect for an overnight stay and as a starting point for tours, such as those to the Weissmies. During the summer season, 60 beds are available. Reservations are recommended. Open from June to October, the hut is closed in winter.
