🦅 The sculpture "Waltbraht Carrying Saint Alexander" in the church square in Drensteinfurt is a central monument deeply rooted in regional history and legend. The legend: In 851 AD, the nobleman Waltbraht (a grandson of the Saxon Duke Widukind) brought the relics of Saint Alexander from Rome to Wildeshausen.

Walbrath (Walbert) crossed the Werse River in Drensteinfurt around 850. According to the story, he wanted to transport the relics of Saint Alexander from Rome to his hometown of Wildeshausen. Legend has it that he stumbled and was brought to the shore by an eagle.
