The imposing castle complex lies above Bosa and offers a great view over the roofs of the city and the Temo all the way to the sea. It was built in 1112 on the top of the Serravalle mountain by the Tuscan noble family Malaspina dello Spino Secco, who settled on the island in the mid-11th century. It is said that the jealous Marchese built an underpass from the castle to the cathedral so that his beautiful wife could walk to the church away from prying eyes.
