Of uncertain origin, at the beginning it was probably a tabernacle, already existing in the mid-15th century, built on the mule track (formerly calla or calle) which led through the woods to the Consuma pass, with the contribution of the pilgrims who came in large numbers to venerate the Marian image considered miraculous. In 1641 the bishop of Fiesole appointed the first rector, whose house was subsequently transformed into a hermitage. The oratory, with a simple fifteenth-century appearance, is preceded by a large loggia with three arches and characterized by windows and external kneelers and a later portal, perhaps from the seventeenth century.
