Both the provincial road that passes alongside it and the dirt roads that surround it on the opposite side are very beautiful.

Of karst origin, Lake Canterno laps the municipalities of Ferentino, Fiuggi, Fumone and Trevigliano and is also called the "ghost lake" for its peculiarity of filling up and emptying itself when the Pertuso sinkhole becomes obstructed or not with debris.

Due to its position and proximity to the boundary of the ancient state of the Church, Fumone, from which the valleys of the Cosa and Sacco dominate, was placed by the papacy as a sentinel against Saracen and Norman incursions. It seems that its name derives from the fact that it was the reporting center for any enemies in sight, by lighting fires on a special tower: a thesis that is reflected in the popular saying "Si Fumo fumat..Tota Campania tremat .. . ". Fumone enters history in the Middle Ages (9th century), but the legend traces its origins to King Tarquinius the Superb who, after the expulsion from Rome, seems to have found refuge here (5th century BC). Over the centuries it was papal dominion and its fortress was also used as a prison. His most illustrious prisoner was Pope Celestine V, the Pope of the "great refusal", locked up in the fortress by Boniface VIII, where he died in 1296 in mysterious circumstances. At the end of the century XVII the Marquises Longhi, to whom the fortress was received, restored and transformed it, creating a magnificent complex called "Villa Longhi" with the adjoining "hanging garden", a real marvel: its avenues alternate with ancient plants, flower beds and archaeological finds. 7月
On the slopes of the Ernici Mountains, Fiuggi extends, surrounded by a rich vegetation of chestnut woods, so imposing as to be able to obtain "mini-homes". The upper part of the city is characterized by a maze of narrow streets and squares where you can immerse yourself in the charm of the rich history of the place. In the church of San Biagio Martire valuable works are preserved, such as a painting by Cavalier d'Arpino, a holy water stoup formed by a Romanesque capital and a fresco of the Virgin and Child (12th century; Giotto's school). Two silver busts of the patron (S.Biagio) and promotor (S.Rocco) are located in the Collegiate Church of S. Pietro. The lower part of the city, that of the Baths, is characterized by the presence of the Fonte di Bonifacio VIII and the Anticolana one, in which the "Fiuggi" mineral waters are collected, famous for their therapeutic properties (they were also prescribed to Pope Bonifacio VIII who immediately benefited from it and from Michelangelo to appease the "stone sickness" he suffered from). 7月 29, 2020, Anagni – The City of Popes
Anagni is located on a hill in the Latina valley, in the province of Frosinone 65 kilometers away from Rome. Also known as the "city of slap", Anagni was defined by the German historian Gregorovius "one of the most beautiful terraces in Europe". The foundation of the city dates back to around 3,000 years ago, by populations from Asia Minor and Greece. It is located on a spur of the Ernici Mountains, a strategic position that has allowed it to assume a role of cultural, religious and strategic center of particular importance. The city is embellished with some of the most beautiful medieval architectural complexes in Italy such as the Cathedral, built between 1071 and 1105, whose frescoed crypt is called the "Sistine Chapel of the Middle Ages". The center consists of elegant and austere buildings, bell towers and squares with sober architecture, which at each step evoke some of the most important events in the history of Italy. Papal Palace of Boniface VIII theater of important historical events, such as the famous "slap" and the Cathedral, one of the most remarkable Romanesque monuments in Lazio, the characteristic Barnekow house, of the '300. Four popes who were born in Anagni, also called "City of the Popes": Pope Boniface VIII, Pope Innocent III, Pope Gregory IX, Pope Alexander IV. (source: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anagni)

7月 29, 2020, Monastero di Sant'Erasmo, Veroli
Veroli is one of the richest towns in Ciociaria in history, culture and art. Hernica city with the name of Verulae, later a Roman municipality, had great importance in the Middle Ages as a bishopric. With ups and downs, Veroli was always linked to the Church, even if in 1798 he actively participated in the Jacobin republican movement. There are many monuments that attest to its importance. Of the pre-Roman city there are remains of polygonal walls that surround the Rocca di San Leucio and the forum, the 4th century AD walkway, dates back to Roman times. and the Fasti Verulan (1st century AD), a rare calendar with the commemoration of some events in Roman history. The well-preserved Borgo S. Croce, which is accessed from the door of the same name with the nearby fourteenth-century palace, belongs to the medieval period. Its churches also have medieval origins. Sant’Erasmo is a Romanesque church built on a previous Benedictine monastery, of which it maintains the facade and bell tower; inside, the canvas by Sebastiano Conca (1747) recalls the meeting that took place here between Barbarossa and Pope Alexander III to agree on the Peace of Constance. We stayed in the Monastery of Sant'Erasmo, a sixth century Benedictine monastery finely restored into a widespread hotel. The monks' cells become rooms and the ancient refectory, a restaurant room. Welcomed with our bikes with availability and courtesy (santerasmoveroli.it).
