10月 11, 2025, Semaforo di Monte Gallo
At the summit of Monte Gallo stands the Semaforo, a historic Bourbon-era building originally used by the Royal Navy as an observation post. It is now known as the "Semaforo dell'Eremitta" (Hermit's Semaforo) thanks to Nino, a former stonemason who has lived here as a hermit since 1997. Be extremely careful when visiting this place due to wild dogs and goats. The dogs are extremely aggressive and, in addition to barking at travelers, may also chase you on your way back.

Don’t visit this place. The Eremit’s dogs noticed us, when taking the detour to across the stones. A couple of minutes later the Eremit was throwing stones at us. We were completely silent and respectful with the environment. However it seems like the Eremit does not want to have any visitors.

Don't believe everything you have read from many of these posts, I was there on May 21, goats & dog were super friendly & seemed well fed, I also train problematic dogs so I know animals, the goats came over to me and wanted to be petted like a dog, then one of the dogs came over & was friendly & also wanted to be petted, the goat got jealous & pushed me a bit with his horn's ever so lightly, the dog then left, the guy was in his own world so to speak so what, he is a loaner, live & let live, the trail is not difficult for someone that actually has experience hiking, there is a difference between hiking & walking just as there is a difference between swimming in a pool & a wavey ocean so know your limits, all in all I nice hike, nice place, nothing spectacular

‼️Please, bring dog food‼️Hermit has 2 dogs that are starving and incredibly skinny!! You can bring dry dog food and leave it there. They also dont have any fresh water. Your little contribution makes difference 🙏🏻

Unfortunately true, the western flank it's dangerous. The hermitage fenced off, we had to go around it on the slope. Lots of loose stones.

The path on the western flank of the summit was not easy to make out due to the many footprints. This upper part of the tour also has a more alpine character. A little way back along the path there is a good path up to Capo Gallo. I didn't do the last 200 m, however, because the hermit obviously has a rather large, unfriendly dog that runs around freely and came towards me barking. The rest of the route was fantastically beautiful and it was definitely worth it.

Attention! The hermit has fenced everything off and has two guard dogs - the path is no longer passable! There is considerable danger between waypoints 2 and 3 and it is not "easy to walk" as described in the tour!

In colloquial terms it is often thrown into the proverbial “one pot”, but in terms of content a distinction must be made between “labyrinth” and “maze”. You can't get lost in the "labyrinth" (like in the "maze"), but rather - slowed down by many loops and detours - you walk inexorably towards the center. Wikipedia says about the labyrinth: “a winding, branch-free path whose lines inevitably lead to the goal, the center, with regular changes of direction.” According to Christian mysticism, this center in the middle of the labyrinth is God himself, to whom man (as a pilgrim on earth) travels in the labyrinth of life.

A place of worship for those who fell at sea, therefore, it was actually a guard outpost, which is why it was re-appellated, in honor of the facts, "Fortino". It is there that, all around, what may seem like an open-air museum was created, made up of trulli overlooking the sea. Source: amp.palermotoday.it

But why is there a village in Sicily, albeit a miniature one, like the one you can visit in Puglia? It would seem that everything revolves around a chapel, still today a point of reference for many of the faithful in the area. What is considered a sanctuary was a destination for pilgrims who reached there on foot or on horseback. However, it was consecrated as such by some inhabitants of Sferracavallo who, over the years, have fueled the false myth that is still widespread today in popular culture, namely that it is a small church. However, that small building is none other than the casemate of a Bourbon fort built in 1802, together with other forts and forts located in strategic points on the coast of Palermo in defense of the royal family, who arrived from Naples in December 1799. That small open-air theater moreover, it was recently built on the perimeter of the wall that protected the battery with the artillery pieces. Source: amp.palermotoday.it

seafront of Sferracavallo, not far from the natural reserve of Capo Gallo, in what was once called Punta della Vaccarella due to the numerous pastures in the area, real trulli emerge. In fact, not many know that in Punta Barcarello it is not so much the landscape between the sea and the mountains that enchants, but the mini-village with the typical limestone houses of Alberobello in southern Puglia which, today, are part of the Unesco heritage. Together with the Sicilian trulli, just over a meter high, it is also possible to admire a small Egyptian sphinx, a miniature amphitheater and a large fishing boat now used as a planter.
