The Scaliger Castle of Malcesine was probably built before the birth of Christ, while other sources report a construction date of around 500 AD. The castle was destroyed by the Franks in 590 and subsequently rebuilt. Over the centuries, the rulers of this magnificent castle changed hands several times. In 1902, the castle was declared a national monument.

A beautiful, well-preserved castle. From there, you have a perfect view of the lake. However, we found the entrance fee to be expensive.

The Castello Bar in Malcesine. Right in the middle of the action. But nice to sit and watch the crowds. Good prices and delicious snacks.☀️🍺🍷🍹👍

Beautiful scenery, but not interesting for a beach holiday: beaches are overcrowded, much(!) too close to the road, and uncomfortable stone beaches.

A drawbridge connects the entrance to the castle with a brick bridge that leads from the bank over the moat. Where the name comes from and whether the bridge is even called that 🤷♂️🤔
