Beautiful lake with dreamy bays to linger

Good physical condition, hiking boots, and don't forget: This is alpine terrain. Don't overestimate it. This should become clear just by looking at the terrain. You are just a small cog in the larger picture, and only a tiny part of it. Nature, or rather, creation, can be quite merciless against arrogance and doesn't readily forgive mistakes. Those who keep this in mind will have unadulterated enjoyment of the breathtaking nature and landscape, and, beyond that, an unforgettable hike or mountain bike ride.

Lake Wolayersee lies at approximately 1,950 meters and is surrounded by several peaks with steep rock faces. The lake has no inflow; its water comes from rainfall and melting snow. On the lakeshore, the Wolayersee Hut, a mountain refuge belonging to the Austrian Alpine Club, offers accommodations and meals.

The refuge is located in a spectacular position that dominates the entire valley up to the Volaia Pass. The panoramic terrace exposed to the sun is ideal for stopping to rest.

It can be found near Lake Volaia. In fact, it's just a few minutes' walk from here to the shore. I recommend finding out about the opening first, as when I went there it was under renovation.

The beautiful lake can be easily circumnavigated. I recommend walking along the shore to admire the view from all angles.
