Nice, well-attended refuge

Rifugio Brentari, named after Ottone Brentari, has a history tied to the Società Alpinisti Tridentini (SAT) and its evolution over time. Construction began in the early twentieth century, and it was the first refuge in the Lagorai mountain range, Cima d'Asta, and suffered significant damage during both world wars.

The Baito dell'Ortigara, located at the center of the Vallone dell'Agnellizza, the wide valley between Mount Ortigara and Cima Caldiera, was originally a small, basic shelter for shepherds, used for many decades in the 20th century. Today, its function is to provide shelter for hikers in case of sudden bad weather. It already existed during the Great War, appearing on maps and military communications as a landmark, as there were no other reference points in this barren area. During the conflict, it was a risky but necessary passage for Italian troops assaulting Mount Ortigara: completely exposed to Austro-Hungarian artillery, it was nicknamed "Vallone della Morte" (Valley of Death) by the Alpine troops due to its high level of risk.

The Rifugio Cima d'Asta Ottone Brentari, at 2,473 m, is located in the Lagorai group. Open seasonally from June to September, it offers beds (also in the winter room) and is managed by the SAT. Typical cuisine and breathtaking views. For information: www.rifugio-cimadasta.it.
