This area was once covered by vast valleys, and the pine forest extended uninterruptedly from the Reno River to Cervia. In the following centuries, significant land reclamation and water management work was carried out, particularly in the pine forests of San Vitale, Classe, and Cervia.

The Valle Mandriole watchtower, damaged by a fire, has finally been rebuilt: 12 metres high and visible from the SS 16, it is entirely made of larch wood, the bracing is made of steel rods with plates anchored to the wood with special tensioners for greater stability and the steps are made of expanded metal.

Access to the bridge is always blocked by a chain on both sides, to cross it you have to climb over the chains

The monument stands on the banks of the Senio river near the Lugo bridge and commemorates the breakthrough of the Senio line which took place between 9 and 10 April 1945 when the demining of the area was completed by the Allied troops who had already liberated Ravenna on 4 December 1944.
