Ancient Via dei Brentatori

The climb to get to San Lorenzo is tiring, but the efforts are rewarded by the views and the tranquility of these hills.

Between the Lavino and Samoggia streams, this ancient church near San Lorenzo in Collina took on its current appearance in the 15th century. The rose window and Renaissance cloister make it one of the most fascinating in the Bolognese Apennines, despite the fact that frescoes relating to the life of San Lorenzo were erased – a few centuries ago.

Panoramic point over the Lavino valley, along the gravel road that leads to San Lorenzo in Collina. Better to take this stretch downhill, if you don't want to first endure all the asphalt uphill from Zola Predosa, and then be able to follow the narrow and steep but fun path in the bush that connects downstream with the Zola - Ponterivabella route. Uphill you avoid the asphalt only by crossing the vineyards of the Agriturismo Borgo delle Vigne, as proposed in my tour "MTB Between Reno and Panaro: Ponte Ronca - San Lorenzo in Collina - Golf Bologna"

The church of Amola, also known by the full name of Church of Santa Maria Assunta Monte San Pietro, dates back to at least the 14th century and houses the precious painting "the Via Crucis" by Mauro Gandolfi, a Bolognese artist. The bell tower, rebuilt in 1946, is the only non-original element.
