The term "construction of the century" is only a slight exaggeration, as more than 50 years of endless discussions and repeatedly rejected traffic plans have now come to a successful conclusion: Finally, there is the first inner-city railway crossing completely without barriers. And finally, Reinfeld has its first real inner-city cycle paths, if one disregards the cycle path along the B75, which was financed and initiated by the state. From the B75 to the train station, cyclists can finally travel on physically separated and safe paths. The bridge's incline is somewhat strenuous for cyclists without motor assistance, but certainly manageable. The view back over the station and the arriving trains is well worth the effort. The bridge was inaugurated and opened on September 26, 2025.

The grain silo of Reinfeld's Claudius Mill was built here in the 1970s. In 1996, the Johannes Ströh company ceased mill operations in Reinfeld. The original plan for the railway crossing called for the silo to be demolished. Apparently, the plan was to cut costs and route the road in a conspicuous arc around the old structure. Bats and mobile phone operators will be pleased, but demolition at some point in the future will now be far more costly. Just as Lübeck's skyline is dominated by its seven distinctive church steeples, the Reinfeld skyline will continue to be dominated by the three concrete blocks, all built in the 1970s.

The Herrenteich Pond is located in the heart of the carp town of Reinfeld. It was artificially created in the 12th century by Cistercian monks as a reservoir for the Heilsau River for fish farming. Carp are still bred here today. A four-kilometer circular trail around the Lower Herrenteich invites you to discover this special ecosystem. 16 stations along the adventure trail offer fun and a nature experience in one, sharpening your awareness of the special features of this natural area. The Herrenteich in Reinfeld is a popular tourist destination. The approximately 55-hectare body of water is divided into the upper and lower Herrenteich. The upper Herrenteich remains a recognized nature reserve. The lower Herrenteich is home to, among other things, a hiking trail and an outdoor pool in the summer. Due to melting snow, the Herrenteich flooded in early March 2010. A temporary dam erected at the time due to construction work threatened to no longer hold the water masses. A breach of the dam would have flooded the entire hinterland. The Hamburg/Lübeck railway embankment would also have been affected. The old town of Bad Oldesloe captivates with its historic charm and idyllic location at the confluence of the Trave and Beste rivers. Especially around Hude Square, you can still experience medieval Oldesloe, with its old buildings and winding alleys.

The hiking trail along the Elbe-Lübeck Canal from Lübeck to Lauenburg is super flat (without any inclines). It is easy to ride and, with a few exceptions, has no potholes :-) The bike path is not suitable for racing bikes!
