The Campo Imperatore plateau is a picturesque place with breathtaking views. Known as Little Tibet, it is surrounded by the main peaks of the Gran Sasso range. At its highest point, we find the old hotel where Mussolini was held prisoner, the Astronomical Observatory, and the cable car. Numerous trails branch off toward the peaks of the Gran Sasso range.

The last 2 km leading to the observatory are very challenging, and it is nice to see who is going up when you have completed the climb and you go down …

Last stretch of climb to reach Campo Imperatore. Very comfortable and completely asphalted road. Slopes never too demanding; the final segment from the Pietranzoni lake to the Campo Imperatore refuge rises progressively to complete the last 8 km with approximately 480 m of altitude difference.
