The Campo Imperatore plateau is a picturesque place with breathtaking views. Known as Little Tibet, it is surrounded by the main peaks of the Gran Sasso range. At its highest point, we find the old hotel where Mussolini was held prisoner, the Astronomical Observatory, and the cable car. Numerous trails branch off toward the peaks of the Gran Sasso range.

Last stretch of climb to reach Campo Imperatore. Very comfortable and completely asphalted road. Slopes never too demanding; the final segment from the Pietranzoni lake to the Campo Imperatore refuge rises progressively to complete the last 8 km with approximately 480 m of altitude difference.

At 2100 meters above sea level in Campo Imperatore, the weather is always unknown, sometimes fog or low clouds are the masters but if the sun is shining, the panoramas that open up to the eyes are worth all the effort made to arrive there

This is the arrival point of the Campo Imperatore road. Located at an altitude of 2,100 meters, various stages of the Giro d'Italia have arrived here: the stage won by Marco Pantani in the 1999 Giro stands out for its importance. Various hiking trails start from here, including the one that leads to the western peak of Corno Grande, the highest point of the Gran Sasso chain of Italy.

The road that connects Santo Stefano di Sessanio to Calascio crosses the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. This road is narrow at times but offers sensational panoramas.

the Porta di San Francesco is built entirely of bricks, in the niche placed on its top there is the representation of the Patron Saint of the city (San Massimo). On the portal there is a plaque commemorating the visit of San Francesco to Penne in 1216. Looking frontally at the Porta di San Francesco, it is possible to see a fifteenth-century tower on the left and the church of San Nicola on the right.
