Roman Columns of Brindisi (1/4) The end of the Via Appia Antica, known locally as the Roman Columns of Brindisi, is a remarkable historical landmark in the charming port city of Brindisi, Italy. The Historical Significance of the Columns The end of the Via Appia Antica is no ordinary monument; it is a testament to the lasting legacy of the Roman Empire. Originally, two tall columns marked the endpoint of the famous Via Appia, one of the earliest and most strategically important Roman roads connecting Rome to Brindisi. These columns have silently guarded the harbor for centuries, witnessing the changing tides of history.

Serranova is a small agricultural village, about 9 km from Carovigno and not far from the sea; it is made up of a few houses, inhabited both in summer and winter. The Castle of Serranova was the object of several alienations from feudal lord to feudal lord: from Ottavio Serra to Scipione Costaguto in 1653, from him to the Castaldo family, then to Giulio di Sangro in 1684, finally in 1702 it came into the hands of the baron Scipione Granafei [unsourced] [1]; the Granafei family gave prestige to that territory, renowned for its extension and for the significant number of centuries-old olive trees that it included. Abandoned farmhouse. Very nice dirt road! After passing the farmhouse, going straight you reach Serranova passing through the crypt of San Biagio or turning left you head towards the beautiful Mesagne!

The church has a beautiful rose window and the interior is baroque.

It is also very lively and turbulent here due to the many cafés and restaurants.
