A wonderful welcome at the Refuge des Clos, a short stop with an omelet and croque-monsieur. Excellent, I recommend it.

Fantastic location for an overnight stay. There are small dormitories (bring a sleeping bag and a large pillowcase) and delicious food. Bivouacing is possible next to the hut. Tip: book well in advance during peak season. And the route across the Plateau d'Emparis is highly recommended!

This little "secret garden", as the managers of the refuge describe it, is located above Lake Chambon, in the Écrins. The refuge has a capacity of 19 places, divided into two dormitories and has dry toilets outside. You can also enjoy a catering service all day long. In Occitan, the pousterle is a small gate (a postern). It comes from the Latin posterula, which means the back door. This toponym sometimes refers to a pass, which is a gate between two valleys. Glaciers carved out this gate where an arm passed between the glacier that occupied the Fournel valley and the one that flowed into the Vallouise valley.
