A quiet road leads you along the banks of the Čabranka River. Down here in the valley, you can take a short breather before heading uphill again.

The entrance fee is 7 euros (5 euros if you are a member of the Hiking Association of Croatia/Slovenia/Bosnia and Herzegovina).

A region of beech and fir forests and karst mountain peaks, Risnjak National Park occupies some of the most untouched landscapes in the country. So verdant is this land that it's often referred to as 'the green heart of Croatia.' As well as prominent peaks to conquer, there's plenty of wildlife to discover too, from chamois and pine marten to wolves, bears and lynx. Bear in mind there's a small entrance fee, which gives you access to the national park for two days.

Place of bursting nature, dense forests, woods and green clearings. Among the many easy marked trails you can walk for hours without meeting anyone and the silence is total. The easy climb to the Schlosser refuge in a meadow below the Risnjak peak is very beautiful, but it is not always open, better ask before departure.

Hard but awesome climb with 19 hairpins and more than 10% gradient.
