The pass itself is at an altitude of 1,076 meters and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. From here, you can look down to Queenstown and Lake Whaika. There are also several rest areas and viewpoints where you can catch your breath and enjoy the scenery. The descent is pure fun! The road is winding and leads through breathtaking scenery. You can really let loose and enjoy the speed! 😄 Overall, the Crown Range is one of the most beautiful and challenging cycling routes in New Zealand. This is the summit on the Crown Range Road. It’s the highest main road in New Zealand and reaches an altitude of 1121 metres. In the winter it can become covered in snow.

The OPERA - Otago Peninsula Eco Restoration Alliance a very worthwhile visit. The tour is informative and with a little luck you can see yellow-eyed penguins on the beach during the short hike. We even saw two seals and a sea lion. At the end you visit the Penguin Hospital, where two adult yellow-eyed penguins live and many fluffy young animals.
