Prefer this to the road climb next to it as that gets a lot steeper once off road. This is just a long grind with a few pinchy bits. Can imagine it would be great fun going down, but it is singletrack so careful on the corners.

One of the largest mixed woodlands in southern Wiltshire, situated on a chalk ridge above the River Wylye. It is recognised for its nature conservation importance through designation as a County Wildlife Site. Among the species found here is the Purple Emperor butterfly.

Great views from here. Nice area to ride or walk. Nice pub in Great Wishford for a stop to have a drink etc and are happy to fill your water bottles.

Nice continuous section of off road, comprising single track, open gravel forest tracks, bit of tarmac and concrete. Busy with walkers and riders in the sunshine.

Good segment, rode fine Feb21 and links Chilmark with First and Second Broad drives to Wilton

Concrete drove road linking the Dinton/Wylye road with the Black Dog Hill above Chilmark. Good in the main but harsh in parts especially at >20kmh!

Suggest you have at least 32mm tyres, wider would be better. Gearing I used low of 30:27 which was ok. The route is a great combination of technical single track and wide open spaces, surfaces run the gamut of loose gravel, dirt, tarmac, concrete. All very rideable and highly recommended!

Cracking ride up from Great Wishford to the hill above Dinton-Wylye. More byways run off from the end of this route so more gravel to ride if you want it!

Grovely Wood is the largest woodland in southern Wiltshire, straddling the Wylie and Nadder valleys. It is a recognised conservation site and boasts a lot of history. A Roman road runs from east to west through the heart of the woodland and two Iron Age hill forts, Ebsbury and Grovely Castle, lie to the north.
